Yet another update

It's likely becoming obvious that I am running out of things to entertain myself with that don't require me to sit up for long periods or intense concentration, as I keep updating LJ.

I just finished reading two of the newer books by Dick Francis, sadly deceased last year. I began reading Francis around the same time I began reading Louis L'Amour, so about 25 years ago. I love Francis's books. They're somewhat predictable; told in first person, the main character is almost invariably male and has generally the same sort of personality. But it's a likeable personality, and the author manages to make the story different enough each time, and.. yeah. I like his stuff.

I wish I could find an author that was as prolific and wrote the same quality work. I am now back to slogging my way through Steven Brust's Taltos series, and.. it just isn't the same. Francis writes books that are difficult for me to put down, they are engaging and... yeah.

I'm not sure where I'm going with this. I love to read, and these days I find myself re-reading alot of things I've already read, because spending money on a new author so often leads to disappointment. Blugh.

You could try poking around in our lending library here. :)

Any recommendations? I'm slogging through Brust, and will finish the series eventually, but it -is- a slog.

I like fantasy-esque books more than space opera, but I was a big fan of Anne McCaffery when I was younger, and I greatly enjoyed David Brin's Glory Season.

You think those are a slog, you should try 500 Years After. Good lord. I don't think I even finished that one.

Also - oh noes! More updates! What a terrible thing! (Like I should talk...)

Next time you're over, we can go through the collection and I can try and provide feedback. :)

Sounds like a plan. I saw a lot of favorites on your shelves, so I know our tastes coincide in spots. :)

Did you ever read The Intimate History of the Greater Kingdoms?

I have not read it, no! Good?

Right up our alley, I think. Here was my review. :)

... I believe I will be picking this up! I am impressed that the author left a comment, and.. I think you know how I feel about series books. >.>

(for those that don't, I love a good series. One book is never time enough to get to know a character properly)

I have too many books, I need to get rid of some. I'm going to the donation box at the South Shore Plaza tomorrow to unload some old college textbooks and just stuff I don't need anymore. I need either a bigger bookshelf, or one of those nifty e-readers.

Or I could just go to the library more.

I have one of those nifty e-readers! And I have slowly been replacing my hard copy books with ebook copies. It makes it harder to find new authors to enjoy though.

(Cannot rave enough about how awesome my kindle is. I absolutely love that thing)
